Why the Steigerwaldstadion Model Captures True Sporting Legacy| Fanbrick
There are stadiums, and then there are living monuments.
In the heart of Erfurt, Germany, stands the Steigerwaldstadion—a structure that has not merely existed for nearly a century but has throbbed with the heartbeat of sporting history. It has witnessed 47,390 fans roaring so loudly the ground shook. It has hosted continental giants battling for European glory. It survived war, saw empires rise and fall, and emerged from a €45 million rebirth as a beacon of modern engineering.
We didn't just "design" a model of this stadium. We excavated its soul.
Presenting the Steigerwaldstadion Architectural Model Kit. It is a gateway to 1931, a tribute to the legends of the pitch, and a masterclass in engineering history—precision-cut for your workshop table.

A History Etched in Concrete and Cheers
To build this model is to walk through time. The decision to build this sports complex was made in 1927, but when the gates opened on May 17, 1931, it was originally known as the Mitteldeutsche Kampfbahn. Imagine the scene: 35,000 spectators packed into earth embankments, sitting on wooden benches, watching the very first international friendly when Germany faced Romania just months after opening.
But history is rarely static. After WWII, the pitch was tragically used to grow potatoes by occupying forces. Yet, like a phoenix, it rose again. In 1948, it was reborn as the Georgij-Dimitroff-Stadion, becoming a premier venue in East Germany.
The Golden Era: In 1951, the stadium hit its legendary peak. As local club Turbine Erfurt battled for the championship, a record crowd of 47,390 fans packed every conceivable space. That is the energy our model captures—the ghost of that impossible roar.
Where Legends Played
The Steigerwaldstadion is not a relic; it is a stage for titans.
Continental Glory (2001): When the world turned to the UEFA Women's European Championship, the Steigerwaldstadion hosted Germany vs. Russia. The host nation swept aside the challenge 5-0 in front of a roaring Erfurt crowd, marching toward the title.
Athletic Excellence (2005 & 2007): The stadium’s running track has seen the future of European athletics. It hosted the U23 European Athletics Championships in 2005 and the German Athletics Championships in 2007, cementing its status as a world-class track venue.
The Next Generation (2009): The opening match of the U17 European Football Championship kicked off here, proving that the stadium is the permanent home of rising stars.
Our model allows you to look down upon that exact pitch. You aren't just gluing plastic; you are rebuilding the theater where German football history was written.
The $45 Million Resurrection (2015-2017)
While our model kit looks to the past, it is built with the precision of the future—mirroring the massive renovation that saved this historic ground.
In 2015, a massive transformation began. Architects HPP and contractors Köster stepped in with a budget of nearly €45 million to drag the stadium into the 21st century while preserving its soul.
What changed?
Unlike many modern renovations that tear everything down, the architects retained the historic covered West Stand (built in 1994) while completely rebuilding the East, North, and South sections. They added a three-story main building featuring the stunning "Parksaal"—a 1,550-square-meter event hall that literally looks out onto the pitch.
The result?
A multi-function arena holding 18,600 fans for football or up to 30,000 for electrifying concerts. It became the most modern conference venue in Central Germany.
Our model replicates this stunning architectural contrast: the vintage reverence of the original layout fused with the sharp, octagonal lines of modern German engineering.
Why You Need This Build
For the mechanical enthusiast and the history buff, this kit is different.
1. The "Renovation" Challenge: You will assemble three distinct rebuild zones, mimicking the actual 2015 construction phases. You will see why the engineers chose to keep the West Stand while demolishing the rest.
2. Engineering Precision: With laser-cut parts, you will replicate the reinforced concrete stepped beams and the 19.6-meter roof overhang that defines modern arena design.

3. The Stories Inside: As you build the seating, remember the 6,249 fans who watched Germany crush Russia in the Euros. As you shape the main building, recall that this was once a potato field.
Bringing History Home
This is more than a desk ornament. It is a conversation starter. It is a tribute to resilience—from the wooden benches of 1931 to the floodlights of 2017.
Whether you are a fan of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, a collector of architectural marvels, or a student of post-war German history, the Steigerwaldstadion Model Kit offers a hands-on journey through time.
