Background: Jeddah Tower is a skyscraper under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is planned to be the first 1km high (3,281 ft) building and upon completion will be the tallest building or structure in the world, 180 m (591 ft) taller than the Burj Khalifa. It is located in the north of Jeddah and is the centerpiece of the Jeddah Economic City project. The project's creator and leader is Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia.
In January 2018, construction progress was halted when the building's owner, JEC, stopped structural concrete work. At the time, the building was only about one-third complete. Development was halted following labor issues with one of the contractors following the 2017-2019 Saudi Arabian purge. In September 2023, a new project tender was received by a multinational group of construction companies to complete the project. Development work on the project resumed in 2023 after nearly five years of stagnation. Jeddah Tower restarted in January 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2028
